Is There Still Hope For The Steelers?

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 2-5 and tied for last place in the AFC North division with the Cleveland Browns. The defending Super Bowl champions have been struggling to score touchdowns, except for the 45-7 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Turnovers have killed them. They generated 360 yards of offense to Oakland's 98 and lost 20-13. Ben Roethlisberger threw 4 interceptions and 2 of them were returned for touchdowns. The defense, working with a short field because of the other 2 inteceptions and a fumble, alowed only 6 points. But, if you look closely at the seven games they've played so far, there are about six plays, had they gone Pittsburgh's way, they could be 6-1.

The Steelers have played the easiest part of their schedule and will have to get through Denver, New Orleans, Cincinnati and Baltimore twice to make it to the playoffs. It seemed almost impossible for them to get to the Super bowl last year, but they did what they had to do and won. They have the personal and talent to win and that's why there is still hope. They have to take care of the football and reduce the turnovers. If they can do that, they'll have a chance to win a few games. It seems that with the loss of Jerome Bettis to retirement, Ben Roethlisberger will have to pass more (without interceptions) and get it in the end zone to bring the Steelers back.

Miami Runs Into A Batch Of Trouble!

The Miami Dolphins came into Heinz Field for the 2006 NFL season opener against the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers hoping to steal a win. Instead they ran into a "Batch" of trouble. Charlie Batch, that is. With the Steelers #1 quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger sidelined by an appendectomy, Charlie was able to keep his perfect 3-0 back-up QB record while completing 15 out of 25 passes for 209 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tight end , Heath Miller was on the receiving end of 101 of those yards, including an 87 yard touchdown bomb from Batch. With the help of a stout Steelers defense and a touchdown interception by linebacker Joey Porter, they defeated the "Fish" 28-17. Running back, Willie Parker kept the Dolphins on their heals by rushing for 115 yards on 29 carries. The Steelers play their next game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football Sept. 17th. Ben Roethlisberger is listed as probable for the Jacksonville game.He has been practicing and told coach Bill Cowher he wants to play. In any event, Charlie Batch has made the most of his opportunities. Get the rest of the story. That's Pittsburgh Steelers news.

Steelers Add Some Zip For 2006!

The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired Rookie free agent running back, Patrick Cobbs from the New England Patriots on Friday September 1st. Who is Patrick Cobbs and what's so great about him? Well, he lead all New England running backs in the pre-season with 188 yards on 38 carries with 3 TDs and a 4.9 yards per carry average. He also caught seven passes for 115 yards, including a 57-yard TD reception. He's only 5-foot 9 or 10 and 210 lbs, but was impressive in college at North Texas. There, he led the nation in rushing in 2003 as a junior (152.7 yards per game), sat out '04 with a knee injury and rushed for over 1,000 yards again last year.

"I didn't even know about him coming out of North Texas," Cowher said. "I never looked at him. Our scouts have. I first saw him that one TV preseason game when New England was playing against Atlanta. He's on the smaller side. He probably won't time fast, but he plays fast. He's got very good balance ... good vision ... excellent hands. He's been impressive. He's a kid who had a very good preseason." This could be a rookie to watch, especially if he gets a chance to play if someone like Duce Staley gets hurt. The Steelers are desparately trying to replace "The Bus", Jerome Bettis, but they still need a consistent power back. Get the rest of the story.

The "Bus's" Motor Is Still Running In His Mouth!

Jerome Bettis, "the Bus" may be out of football, but he's still making headlines. Since leaving the Pittsbugh Steelers after winning Super Bowl XL, "the Bus" has predicted that the Steelers won't do very well this season and that Steelers head coach, Bill Cowher will retire after the 2006 season, even though he has a contract until the end of the 2007 season. Bill Cowher wasn't too happy with Jerome's comments and neither are the fans. We all know that sooner or later Cowher will retire, but what good does it do to bring that up now. The Steelers are preparing to defend their championship (a championship that Bettis had a lot to do with) and it doesn't show much class for him to stir up controversy before the season even gets started. I believe in free speach and he has every right to say it, but he needs to use better judgement. Get the rest of the story. That's Pittsburgh steelers news.

Here we Go steelers, Here We Go!

The Pittsburgh Steelers are back in training camp and getting ready to make a run at repeating as Super Bowl champs. After quarterback Ben Roethlisberger stunned the Steeler nation with a near fatal motorcycle accident and their #1 draft choice, Santonio Holmes was arrested twice before signing with the Steelers and "the Bus" is parked for good, we can only hope that they still have what it takes to win "the Big One". Joey Porter came into camp nursing a sore knee after undergoing surgery. Hines Ward, Super Bowl XL MVP, is working with rookie, Santonio Holmes to bring him up to speed on what's expected when you're a Pittsburgh Steeler. (I hope it takes!) Santonio has a court date in two weeks that could affect the start of the season. The running chores are Willie Parker's to lose and Deuce Staley and Veron Haynes will have to fight it out to see who will replace Jerome Bettis on short yardage situations. There has been some talk as to how long coach Bill Cowher will stay with the Steelers before he retires to his home in North Carolina. Here are some mini videos from this years training camp at St. Vincent college in Latrobe PA you can watch. That's Pittsburgh Steelers news.

Santonio Holmes, T. O. Or No ?

Let's hope the Pittsburgh Steelers don't have another Terrel Owens on their hands with 1st round draft pick, Santonio Holmes. Holmes has gotten into trouble twice after being picked #1 by the Super Bowl XL champion Steelers. His first arrest came in Miami on Memorial Day weekend for disorderly conduct and his 2nd arrest was on June 18th in Columbus, Ohio for domestic violence against Lashae Boone, the mother of one of his three children.

But that's only where the story begins. Apparently, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger tried to talk to his future wide receiver after his 2nd arrest, but Santonio never called him back. "I called him a bunch of times and left a bunch of messages for him, and he has never called me back, so I don't know how to take it," Roethlisberger said two weeks ago. "The ball is in his court ... " Santonio, that's no way to treat the one who could make you a star. Roethlisberger said he was trying to do what Jerome Bettis did for him when he was dealing with his problems. Let's hope Santonio Holmes brings his apologies to camp and thanks Ben for his support. Get the rest of the story. That's Pittsburgh Steelers news.

Ben Roethlisberger Gets Thrown For A Loss In Motorcycle Accident!

On Monday, June 12th about 11:30AM, Pittsburgh Steelers fans all over the United States and beyond held their breath as the news of a motorcycle accident involving Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger spread accross the country. Reports that Ben suffered a broken jaw, a broken nose, broken and missing teeth and a deep cut on the back of his head were bad enough, but then they said he had serious injuries to his knees. Anyone who follows the NFL and especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, knows that Ben has already missed games because of knee injuries. After seeing pictures of the 1995 Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle he was riding and the fact that Ben wasn't wearing a helmet, it's amazing that the youngest quarterback to win a Super bowl, wasn't injured more seriously.

After seven hours in surgery to repair multiple facial fractures and other injuries , the doctors are optomistic about his recovery and ability to play football. The injuries to his knees are more superficial than internal. The Steelers and the doctors have given no indication as to how long it will take Ben to recover or when he will be able to resume his football career. Some of his teammates came to the hospital as soon as they heard the news. Among the first to arrive were back-up quarterback Charlie Batch and Joey Porter. Hines Ward was in Los Angeles and said he would see Ben as soon as he returned to Pittsburgh. Coach Bill Cowher, who warned Ben about riding his motorcycle without a helmet and Steelers owner Mr. Rooney expresed their concerns and prayed for a full recovery. Get the rest of the story and see pictures of Ben's bike, the accident scene and video reports at Channe 4 Pittsburgh Steelers news.

Things Are Heating Up for the Steelers!

Now that the NFL draft is over, the Pittsburgh Steelers are begining to prepare to defend their Super Bowl championship. MVP of Super Bowl XL, Hines Ward is leading by example and not resting on his laurels. Rookies have their names taped accross the front of their helmets during the first weeks of practice in the pre-season. Hines has decided to tape his name to the front of his helmet, taking nothing for granted "I'm not taking that tape off until I make the team," Ward said. "That's my new motivation. An attitude like that can be contageous and that may be what's needed to make another Super Bowl run

From what I'm hearing, the Steelers plan to let quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger open up the offense more, much like he did in the playoffs. By adding 1st round draft pick, Santonio Holmes, they'll try to replace Antwaan Randle El at wide receiver, who is one of the most exciting offensive players in the NFL. With the leadership of "the Bus", Jerome Bettis missing from the locker room and the field, Ben is expected to take a more active role. It looks like they are looking more to Veron Haynes than Duce Staley to take on the tough 3rd down rushing chores that Bettis used to handle. Veron is looking forward to a higher profile and maybe the opportunity to score more touchdowns.

On the defenive side, the Steelers may have stolen one of the best defensive lineman in the country, taken in the 4th round. Orien Harris of Miami, expected to go in the 1st round is apparently quite a find. The Steelers see Harris as a guy capable of playing both inside and outside in their 3-4. He has a lot of experience at a top program that's under constant pressure to win. He has good quickness and is tough to knock off his feet. In four seasons, he had 30 tackles-for-loss and 54 quarterback pressures, which proves he is individually disruptive. Just what the Steelers need, another disruptive player on defense! The Steelers filled the void left by Chris Hope in the secondary by signing free-agent safety Ryan Clark to a four-year contract. A four-year veteran, Clark played strong safety for the Redskins, but will line up at free safety in the Pittsburgh secondary, teaming with Pro Bowl strong safety Troy Polamalu.

This years Pittsburgh Steelers may have a few new faces, but it's sounds like they plan on playing the same hard-nose football we've come to expect in the Steel City. Here we go Steelers! That's Pittsburgh Steelers news and comment from the blogasphere.

Pittsburgh Steelers 2006 Schedule Kicks Off Against Miami

The defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers have released their 2006 season schedule. They open the season at Heinz field with the Miami Dolphins on Thursday September 7th at 8:30 pm. I hope their off season moves will be able to carry them to another championship. You can see the rest of the Steelers 2006 schedule at Steelers-Fan.com With Super Bowl XL behind us and a hand full of Super Bowl championship rings, the Pittsburgh Steelers will have a rematch of the ,, game with the Denver Bronco on November 5th at Heinz Field. The pre-season schedule includes the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday August 12th followed by the Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles and ends with the Carolina Panthers. Even though it's more than 4 months until the first pre-season game, the release of the 2006 schedule marks the beginning of football fever. Steelers fans had a great 2005 and we're looking forward to more of the same in 2006. That's Pittsburgh Steelers news. Get the rest of the story.

Antwann Randle El Signs With The Washington Redskins!

Well, he's gone. The Pittsburgh Steelers quadruple threat wide receiver/quarterback/running back/kick returner, Antwann Randle El signed a 31 million dollar seven year contract to play for the Washington Redskins. Even with the raised salary cap the Steelers couldn't afford to meet an offer like that. Randle El, who some thought should have been MVP of Super Bowl XL, also turned down an offer from his hometown Chicago Bears. Now the the Steelers will probably plug recently acquired wide receiver, Cedric Wilson into the slot vacated by Randle El. The Steelers must also concentrate on keeping some other free agents likeBarrett Brooks OT, Brett Keisel LB, Charlie Batch QB, Chris Hope S, Clint Kriewaldt LB, DeShea Townsend CB, Jerame Tuman TE, Kimo von Oelhoffen DE, Quincy Morgan WR, Sean Morey WR, Verron Haynes RB RFA - Ike Taylor CB. What Do You Really Know About The Pittsburgh Steelers ?

I've been a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers since I moved from Harrisburg, PA to the Steel City in 1969. Before that I was a Philadelphia Eagles fan. The Steelers after winning Super Bowl XL will be writing more history for the fans to talk about. I know a lot of things about the Steelers, but sometimes a trivia question comes along that I just don't know the answer to. Everyone knows that Steelers announcer Myron Cope invented the what? See if you know these facts about the Steelers. That's Pittsburgh steelers news.

What's Next For The Pittsburgh Steelers After Winning Super Bowl XL ?

This Pittsburgh Steelers team has a chance to be ranked with the great Steelers teams of the 1970s. They have already signed 18 of 22 starting players for next season. There are only four starters who may become free agents: receiver Antwaan Randle El, defensive end Kimo von Oelhoffen, cornerback Deshea Townsend and safety Chris Hope. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has matured over the last two years and gained much needed playoff and Super Bowl experience. I don't think that after what this Steelers team had to go through to get to Super Bowl XL, that they'll be resting on their laurels. "This will make coach (Bill) Cowher even hungrier," defensive end Aaron Smith said. "He will enjoy this, but come next season he'll be even hungrier to get back here." The Steelers offensive coordinator, Ken Whisenhunt is being considered for the Oakland raiders head coaching job and would be a hard man to replace. The core of the Steelers will remain intact, but the inspirational leadership of "the Bus", Jerome Bettis will be missing in the locker room. you can bet those "terrible towels"will be flying and reminding them that they are the defending Super Bowl champions. On For The Thumb Has Finally Come !

The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL 21-10 to become only the third franchise in NFL history to win 5 Super Bowl Championships. They join the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco Forty Niners in this elite club. The franchise finally has "One for the Thumb," the phrase coined after the Steelers won four National Football League championship rings in a six-season period from 1975 to 1980. Head coach Bill Cowher said as he handed chairman Dan Rooney the Vince Lombardi Trophy. "Mr. Rooney, I've been waiting a long time for this." The players wanted to win the Super Bowl for aging running back , Jerome Bettis. Jerome "The Bus" Bettis, the Motor City native adored by his teammates, announced his retirement immediately after the game. "I play this game for championships. I am a champion, and I think the last stop for The Bus is here in Detroit," said the 13-year veteran. Wide Receiver, Hines Ward was named the game's Most Valuable Player. Get the rest of the story. Will The Blitzburgh Steelers Prevail In Super Bowl XL ?

The Pittsburgh Steelers defense, known affectionately as "Blizburgh", will obiously be a key to the Steelers success against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL. The architech of the Steelers 3-4 defense, defensive coordinator Dick LaBeau says "I think pressure on the ball is the best way to go." And preesure is what the Steelers bring. Ask Peyton Manning or Jake Plummer. Both suffered losses because of Pittsburgh's aggressive defense in the AFC playoffs. Now it's Matt Hasselbeck's turn. The fact that the Seahawks struggled against the 3-4 the only time they faced a good team that uses it — the Dallas Cowboys — has put a heavy spotlight on that matchup this week. Seattle scored just three points in the first 58:34 against the Cowboys before rallying to win 13-10. The seahawks offensive coordinator is well aware of what problems the Steelers 3-4 defense can bring. "They have very good players, and they have speed with those players," said Seahawks offensive coordinator Gil Haskell. "They start with three big men inside, and it takes two men on Casey Hampton to move him out. They have four athletically physical linebackers that are strong men. And then there's No. 43 [Polamalu], he can move any place he wants to, and he makes plays. ... Really, their personnel are excellent." Let's just hope Blizburgh can do the job while Ben and company take care of the score. Get the rest of the story. That's Pittsburgh Steelers news.

Opposites Attack In Super Bowl XL !

People are beginning to say that Super Bowl XL between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Seattle Seahawks may be a close game because they are so evenly matched. That may be the way they see it, but I see it as a clash between polar opposites. During the regular season these two teams did anything but mirror one another. The Seahawks offense was ranked #2 in the NFL while their defense was tied for 16th. On the other hand the Steelers had the 15th ranked offense with a defense raked 4th in the league. So, where does this evenly matched stuff come from. Well, it must be how these two teams have played in the post season. There are some similarities, however. The Steelers and the Seahawks have score an average of 34 points a game on their road to Super Bowl XL. Their running backs are averaging 3.5 yard per carry for Seattle and 3.3 for the Steelers. Hasselbeck has completed 66% of his passes and Roethlisberger has completed 68%. Darrell Jackson averaged 14.5 yards and 2 TDs, while Hines Ward averaged 13.7 and 2 TDs. So if these offenses play this even, then the edge would have to be in the defense. And that's where the Pittsburgh Steelers are the strongest. Get the rest of te story. Who's That Seahawks Fan In Steelersland ?

I just read an article about a Pittsburgh Steelers fan who showed off his Steelers gear (hat and jacket) in Seattle and then purchased Seattle Seahawks gear to wear in Pittsburgh to see what reactions he would get. He was surprised at how passive the people in Seattle were to see a Pittsburgh Steelers fan parading around town displaying the balck and gold. The reaction to a Seahawks fan in Pitttsburgh was quite different and funny. You can read about this dangerous and hillarious experiment for yourself. Steelers Mania Hits The Mid-State !

Pittsburgh Steelers fans from all over central Pennsylvania and beyond converged on the state capital at Harrisburg yesterday to rally behind the Steelers. Governor Ed Rendell , an avid Eagles fan, was on hand to host the rally. Former "Steel Curtain" member, Dwight White encouraged the Steelers faithful as he cheered the team on to a Super Bowl XL win with "Go Steelers!" A trivia contest highlighted the event when a question was asked " Who was the MVP in Super Bowl X?" The answer, Lynn Swann, who may be governor Rendell's opponent in the upcoming elections. Some "boos" were heard in the crowd. It was not sure who those boos were for. Other signs of Steelers mania gone wild include the chief page of the state House of Representatives placing "Terrible Towels" on the reps desks (203) and members of the House coming to work wearing Pittsburgh Steelers jerseys, hats and ties. And if that's not enough, our pastor has encouraged the congregation to wear our Steelers gear to church on Sunday. All I can say is "Go you big Steelers and beat Seattle!" Beware Of The Terrible Towel !

Like a swarm of locusts devouring a corn field, the "Terrible Towel" in the hands of rabid Pittsburgh Steelers fans will blanket Ford's Field in Detroit on Super Bowl Sunday. Already retailers and online sports stores are selling out of the whirling black and gold symbols of Steeler power. Some Steelers fans are buying as many as 200 of the terry cloth taunting hammers. More powerful than a "tomahawk chop" and more inspiring than the Notre Dame fight song, these glorious yellow rags are a must have item for Sunday's Super Bowl XL. The Pittsburgh Steelers faithful have waited ten years to cheer there team to a Super Bowl victory and the one thing that they hope will strike fear into the hearts of the Seattle Seahawks, besides the Pittsburgh Steelers, is to see thousands of "Terrible Towels" waving frantically as they try to run their plays on Sunday. The Bus Lands In MoTown Today As The Stelers Prepare For Super Bowl XL !

The Pittsburgh Steelers may have left the Steel City, but it will look a lot like home when they touch down in the Motor City today. The NFL has designated the Pittsburgh Steelers as the home team for Super Bowl XL and by the number of Steeler fans expected to swarm into Detroit it may look like a Heinz Field crowd. Steelers fan have always traveled well. The last time Pittsburgh made it to the Super Bowl, 10 years ago, the Phoenix area was loaded with Pittsburgh supporters. And that was against Dallas - you know, America's Team. Fans wearing Bettis and Roethlisberger jerseys are everywhere and this week the numbers will swell into a sea of black and gold. Super Bowl XL may be a home game for the Steelers, the team will be wearing their white . Let's hope they continue their road war and bring the Lombardi Trophy to their real home, Pittsburgh. The No Pittsburgh Steelers Football Blues !

The Pittsbugh Steelers haven't even gone to Detroit and the Seattle Seahawks arrive today. Super Bowl XL won't be played until 6 or 7 PM next Sunday and the wait is killing me. If you're a tennis, bowling, golf, basketball, hockey, fly fishing, snow boarding, wrestling or rodeo fan, then you have no problem. But, if you're a die-hard, jersey wearin', six-pak drinkin', nacho eatin', waiting for baseball season to start football fan like I am, then you're out of options. The anticipation around here, in Harrisburg, PA is so high that the pastor of our chuch has referenced the Steelers in his last two sermons. The church bulletin this morning had an announcement that the youth group was going to have a Super Bowl XL party on Feb. 5th in the church sanctuary and show the game on the giant projection screen behind the pulpit. I've been searching the internet for any new Pittsburgh Steelers news and it's slim pickins. I think I'll put on my Jack Lambert #58 jersey, grab a beer and find an old John Wayne movie to watch. Wake me up on game day.

Super Bowl Pressure Won't Slow The Bus down!

Pittsburgh Steelers running back, Jerome Bettis is feeling the pressure of being a Super Bowl media celebrity. Vowing to take care of his personal life first, "the Bus" has put the media on hold. They surround him everday, but he only takes time to tell them he can't right now. "The media requests are increasing," said Bettis, "Anyone who knows me knows I have a reputation of taking care of everyone in the media. But at some point, I'm going to have to say no." Jerome has become an even bigger story than the game itself. Steelers fans and his team mates want to see the Canton bound Bettis win a Super Bowl ring before he parks "the Bus". "It's already getting crazy," he said shaking his head as he loaded all his mail into a huge cardboard crate the size of a footlocker. "But it's OK. I've waited 13 years for this." On Wednesday, he filmed two television commercials, one for Disney, one for an asthma awareness ad. He's determined to get ready to battle Seattle and keep the distractions to a minimum. Will The Steelers Drive The Bus And Park Parker To Start Super Bowl XL ?

Pittsburgh Steelers starting running back, Willie Parker has great respect for veteran Jerome Bettis "the Bus". So much that he said Thursday that he wouldn't care if Bettis started Super Bowl XL ahead of him. In fact, there was another game this season when Parker asked coach Cowher to start "the Bus" as a tribute to the NFL's 5th all-time rusher. I know that Steeler fans and the city of Detroit would love to see #36 step onto the field with the Steelers offense to open Super Bowl XL. Can you imagine how loud that crowd would get when they saw the Detroit native's massive frame take his stance behind Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger?
Super Bowl XL is the climax to one of the best sports stories ever. "The Bus" will probably not be back in uniform next season, so the football world will watch a piece of NFL history unfold. Wear There's White, There's A Win !

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be wearing their white away uniforms, even though the NFL has designated them the Home Team in Super Bowl XL. Bill Cowher considers any game not played in Pittsburgh an away game. Not to mention the fact that the Pittsburgh Steelers have won three away games against top seeds in the AFC playoffs. He wouldn't comment if his decision was based on superstition. Ben Roethlisberger: Letting The Game Pass By Him

The Pittsburgh Steelers need to run to win! Oops! That used to be the Steelers game plan. But, when the Steelers had to score points to get into post season play, they turned to 2nd year quarterback, 23 year old Ben Roethlisberger. Known as a great passer in college, the Steelers offense has hardly given him the chance to show what he can do. "I know he's not putting up a lot of stats like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, but he needs to be mentioned with the great quarterbacks of today,'' receiver Hines Ward said. "He's been the leader on this team.'' But, when the season was on the line Ben came through. He kept on coming through until he took his running team to the Super Bowl. "A lot of people said that if we have to throw the ball, we can't win the game,'' Roethlisberger said. "Myself and the team, when we heard that line -- we took offense with that. The last couple of weeks, we've proven that's not the case." The Steelers knew they had a leader last year when they were 15-1 going into the playoffs, but now they believe they have one of the best quarterbacks in the league. "I think teams know we're going to try to run the ball on them, and they want to make Ben beat them,'' left guard Alan Faneca said. "These past few weeks, Ben's been doing just that.'' The Bus has been impressed with Ben, too. "From last year to this year, he's a different quarterback,'' running back Jerome Bettis said. "He has an understanding of what he needs to do to manage the football team. The plays he makes with his feet and throwing the ball is amazing.'' Get the rest of the story. The Coach, The Bus, The Team, Just One More Time !

The Pittsburgh Steeler teams of coach Bill Cowher have lived in the shadow of the "steel curtain" and former head coach, Chuck Noll's 4 Super Bowl wins long enough. This is it, another chance to win "the big one'! They are determined to win and not just show up. There's something different about this 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers squad. They've got the"eye of the tiger" and they're hungry for a Super Bowl ring to start a new dynasty in Pittsburgh. "There's nothing greater, and nothing drives me more, than to hopefully be able to hand him the first trophy," Cowher said. The Steelers are talented, physical and the coach has opened up the play book and turned the defense loose. This time they'll go all out to bring that trophy home to Pittsburgh. Bill Cowher said it best, "No one ever remembers who lost the Super Bowl." Get the rest of the story. That's Pittsburgh Steelers news.

The Next "Bus Stop" For The Pittsburgh Steelers: The Super Bowl In Detroit !

The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Denver Boncos 34-17 to earn a spot in the Super Bowl in Detroit. No one on the team wanted that trip more than Detroit native, Jerome Bettis. He even made his plea in a pep talk to teammates when they arrived in Denver Saturday. "Just get me to Detroit," said Bettis, who came back this season mostly for the chance to end his career by playing in the Super Bowl in his hometown. "Just get me to Detroit." And the Steelers responded by demolishing a good Denver team. The history making 6th seed Steelers are poised to make even more NFL history by being the only 6th seed to win a Super Bowl. Hear From Two Unsung Pittsburgh Steelers !

Everyone's talking to "Big Ben" and "The Bus" this week in Denver, but when was the last time you heard the media interview the Pittsburgh Steelers fullback and kicker. When fullback Dan Kreider was asked to comment on the game with Denver he said " This game must really mean something if you want to talk to me. 'Cause no one talks to me all year untilthe game means something" The reporter started off the interview by calling Kreider the "human battering ram" while admitting he hasn't talked to him all year. The Steelers Are Ready To Ride The Bus Home And Give Jerome Bettis His Super Bowl Ring!

Pittsburgh Steelers running back, Jerome Bettis has inspired his team to get to this far by ruuning through opposing defenses. Now the Steelers, to a man, want to carry him home to his native Detroit and put a ring on his finger for the crowning jewel of his Hall of Fame NFL career. When the media asked him about his fitness and ability now as opposed to when he came to the Steelers in 1996, his answer reminded me of the line in the Toby Keith song, " May not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was!" Hear "The Bus" answer the reporters. Getting back to his teammates admiration for the NFL's 5th all-time leading rusher, "I think this team has rallied around him and what he's meant to this organization for so long and knowing that this could be his last ride," Faneca said the other day. "The fact that it's in his hometown means a lot to the guys in here to make it happen for him because he's meant that much to us." Wide receiver Hines Ward put his feelings for Jerome this way "Each and every day, Jerome is always teaching me something, what it takes to be a professional athlete, that's why I want to win it more for him than for myself." Bettis may park "The Bus" after this season and Hines said it best, "You really don't realize you're playing with a Hall of Fame running back until it comes to an end, if this will be his last year, what better way than to finish where it all started?" Ben Roethlisberger Talks To The Media About The AFC Championship Match Up.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger admitted that the Steelers enjoy the underdog role and play better when they're not expected to win. He also addresses concerns about the opportunistic nature of Denver's defense and how important it will be to take care of the football and eliminate turnovers. Ben feels comfortable with his leadership roll and gives a lot of credit to his offensive line for the success of the Steelers in the playoffs. Roethlisberger is wary of the Broncos, especially since they haven't played them this year. He feels confident the Steelers can make the necessary adjustments to beat the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Atitude Vs. Altitude The Steelers Are Rocky Mountian High In Colorado!

The Pittsburgh Steelers are high off a 21-18 victory over the Colts. That was a win with an atitude. They believe they can continue to win until they're Super Bowl champs. But, no ones looking past the Rockies and the Denver Broncos. As good as they played for more than three quarters in Indianapolis, they''ll have to play a full 60 minutes to breathe easy when they leave the "mile high city". Denver's defense beat the New England Patriots by causing five turnovers. The Steelers will have to take care of the football to survive the Broncos avalanche. Will the altitude in Denver affect the play of the Steelers? Will Jerome Bettis' asthma act up and slow "the Bus" down? Does it matter at all? Get the rest of the story. That's Pittsburgh Steelers news.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are high off a 21-18 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. That was a win with an atitude. The Steelers are playing with enough confidence to become the next Super Bowl champs. But, no one is looking past the Rockies and the Denver Broncos. The Broncos deffense caused the New England Patriots to turn the ball over 5 times on Saturday. The Steelers will have to take care of the football to survive the Denver defensive avalanche. The Pittsburgh Steelers may be hard to defense since the air show they put on against the Colts. On the other hand the Broncos offense has had trouble with the 3/4 defense. They have had trouble running against it and the Steelers are master of the 3/4. It should get physical , but the Steelers are on a roll. That's Pittsburgh Steelers news.

The Pittsburgh Steelers Make History The Hard Way!

With a swarming defense that wouldn't allow the high powered Colts offense get in gear for three quarters, the Pittsburgh Steelers were poised to be the first 6th seed in NFL history to go to an AFC championship game. Then in the final 5 minutes of the 4th quarter it got crazy! The Steelers were up 21-10 when an apparent interception by Troy Polamalu was overturned on a controversial call by the officials. That allowed Peyton Manning to drive the Colts to a touchdown and add a 2 point coversion to make the score 21-18. Within the final two minutes the Steelers defense sacked Manning inside the two and was ready to put the game on ice with another touchdown. All they needed to do was let "the Bus" pound it in and it was on to Denver to play for a spot in the Super Bowl. It didn't seem all that risky. Jerome Bettis hadn't lost a fumble since December 7th, 2003. But, then it happened as Bettis ran to the one yard line a defenders helmet hit square on the ball. The ball was picked up by the Colts Nick Harper with only one man to beat to the endzone, Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers quarterback made a game saving tackle by grabbing the ankle of Parker. The Colts were able to get into field goal range with seconds left, which would put the game into overtime. The most accurate kicker in NFL history missed the 46 yard field goal and the rest is history. Get the rest of the story. That's Pittsburgh Steelers news.

The Best team Won And It Wasn't The Colts. Steelers Pull Off Upset 21-18!

The Pittsburgh Steelers went into Indianapolis a 9 point underdog against the leauges so called best team. When the dust settled the best team won, the Pittsburgh Steelers by 3 points, 21-18. No one was more surprised than the Colts quarterback. "Give Pittsburgh credit for coming in here and playing better than us, they were the better team today,'' Manning said. The real hero may have been Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger playing defense and making a game saving tackle after a rare Jerome Bettis fumble. "Once in a blue moon, Jerome fumbles, and once in a blue moon, I'm going to make that tackle,'' Roethlisberger said. Well, the moon must have been blue because the upset is real and the Steelers advance to the AFC championship game to play the Denver Broncos. Get the rest of the story. Will Offense Or Defense Be The Key In Today's Match Up Between The Steelers And The Colts?

The Indianapolis Colts 3rd ranked offense will go against the Pittsburgh Steelers 4th ranked defense in today's AFC divisional playoff game. On the flip-side, the Steelers 15th ranked offense will go against the Colts 11th ranked defense. As you can see, something's got to give. In the last game between these two teams, Pittsburgh gave. A lot of things have changed since then for both teams. It's going to come down to who wants to win more! These are two of the best teams in the NFL, but on paper the edge would have to go to the Indianapolis Colts. What is it they say about any given Sunday? That's why the play the games on the field and not on paper. The Steelers must be hungrier and play a harder, physical game to win. Odds or no odds the Steelers got as good a chance as anyone to beat the Colts! Get the rest of the story. That's Pittsburgh Steelers news.

Lack Of Media Attention Could Help The Steelers Steal A Victory From The Colts!

No one in the media is giving the Pittsburgh Steelers a chance against the Indianapolis Colts in Sunday's AFC division playoff game and that's fine with the Steelers. The lack of attention and having to deal with a "media circus" allows the Steelers to focus on what they need to do to win the game. "The spotlight is not on us like it was last year," Steelers linebacker James Farrior said. "We can go a little bit under the radar." You won't see many cameras or reporters in the Steelers locker room. "I don't think anybody's picking us to win," quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said. The "media circus" has apparently gone elsewhere, to Indianapolis and Denver. Get the rest of the story. That's Pittsburgh Steelers news.

What Do The Players Think? Hear What Jerome Bettis And Ike Taylor Have To Say About Playing The Colts Again!

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 9 point underdogs going into Sunday's game with the Indianapolis Colts. A lot of that has to do with how they played last time they met. "The Bus", Jerome Bettis commented to reporters that the Steelers are better prepared for the Colts than they were in their 26-7 loss. (Hear Jerome's comments) He also spoke about the noise factor and those 5 false start peanalties. Defensive back, Ike Taylor, who was burned on the Colts first play from scrimmage with an 80 yard touchdown pass, spoke with respect for the Peyton Manning and wide receiver, Marvin Harrison. He said he was looking into the Colt's backfield instead off keeping his attention on Harrison when he was beaten on the touchdown play. He believes the Pittsburgh Steelers should do a lot better this time around. (Hear Ike's comments)

Does Anybody Really Remember How The Colts High-Powered Offense Beat The Steelers?

The Pittsburgh Steelers fell behind 7-0 after giving up an 80 yard touch down on the Colts first play from scrimmage. After that, the Steelers forced the Colts to settle for four field goals rather than touchdowns , and the only other Indianapolis TD was created by coach Bill Cowher's unsuccessful gamble to start the second half with an onside kickoff. The Pittsburgh Steelers defense decided to play with five defensive backs to neutralize Peyton Manning's passing attack. That left nose tackle Casey Hampton off the field and Colts' running back, Edgerrin James was able to rush for 124 yards. It was the only 100-yard game against the Steelers all season. The Steelers don't plan on letting that happen again. They'll play a lot more of their signature 3/4 defense with Hampton in the middle. Stopping James and pressuring Manning will be the top priorities. Also in that game Ben Roethlisberger did not play well and wasn't fully recovered from his injuries. Ben is healthy now and the Steelers are playing the best they've played all season. It should be a very different game on Sunday. Get the rest of the story.

The Steelers Are "Road Warriors", But Will They Be "Road Weary" On The Road To The Super Bowl?

The Pittsburgh Steelers were (7-1) on the road last year and (6-2) on the road this year, but they have to win three in a row on the road to go to the Super Bowl. This feat has only been done once in Super Bowl history and never by a 6th seed. The (11-5) Pittsburgh Steelers are on a 4 game winning streak as they start their road journey in Cincinnati. The (11-5) Cincinnati Bengals are AFC North champions, a crown the Steelers have worn many times. The two teams come into todays game with identicle records and are (1-1) in two previous meeting this season. But, under Bill Cowher, the Steelers are (0-3) in playoff games away. This "rubber match" game will propel one of these AFC rivals into the 2nd round of the playoffs. "There are a lot of people who think we can't do it. But there's always got to be history written at some point," Steelers defensive end Aaron Smith said. "I mean, someone has to do it. So why not us?" Get the rest of the story. Can The Pittsburgh Steelers Break The 6th Seed Jinks ?

The Pittsburgh Steelers face one of the most impossible tasks in sports history. Since the NFL went to the six-team playoff format in 1990, the six seeds are 1-14 in first-round playoff games and have been outscored 31-16 in the process. "History will not determine the winner of this game," veteran defensive lineman Kimo von Oelhoffen said. One number that's in Pittsburgh's favor this weekend, is that no sixth seed has ever had a better record than the 11-5 mark the Steelers have this year. Since 1990, road teams are 18-42 in the wild-card round of the playoffs. "Maybe we can change that," receiver Hines Ward said. "We know the task at hand is going to be hard, there's no question. But if we keep taking the same approach we've been taking the past couple of weeks we'll be fine." But, now the season starts over with everyone even. However, the Pittsburgh Steeelers will have to do something no other team has ever done to win the Super Bowl. "Nobody's ever done it," center Jeff Hartings said. "We're going to try to make history and be the first ones. But the bottom line is to get in the playoffs. Now, anything can happen." Get the rest of the story. That's Pittsburgh Steelers news

The Steelers Have The Momentum, But NOW They MUST Win !

The Pittsburgh Steelers didn't get any help from the Denver Broncos Saturday, as they helped the Kansas City Cheifs stay alive by defeating the San Diego Chargers. If the Pittsburgh Steelers lose today and the Cheifs win over the Bengals, Kansas City will be in and the Steelers will be out! So, this is a must win game for the Steelers against the Detroit Lions. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been on a roll and need to continue that momentum to get the 6th and final seed for the AFC playoffs. History is against the 6th seed advancing out of the 1st round. Only one 6th seed team has won a playoff game. The Pittsburgh Steelers hope to be the 2nd team to go even farther. They are confident and playing their best football of the season, peaking at just the right time. Linebacker Joey Porter said "We're a different team than those other teams, we know what we have to do.
