Ben Roethlisberger: Letting The Game Pass By Him
The Pittsburgh Steelers need to run to win! Oops! That used to be the Steelers game plan. But, when the Steelers had to score points to get into post season play, they turned to 2nd year quarterback, 23 year old Ben Roethlisberger. Known as a great passer in college, the Steelers offense has hardly given him the chance to show what he can do. "I know he's not putting up a lot of stats like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, but he needs to be mentioned with the great quarterbacks of today,'' receiver Hines Ward said. "He's been the leader on this team.'' But, when the season was on the line Ben came through. He kept on coming through until he took his running team to the Super Bowl. "A lot of people said that if we have to throw the ball, we can't win the game,'' Roethlisberger said. "Myself and the team, when we heard that line -- we took offense with that. The last couple of weeks, we've proven that's not the case." The Steelers knew they had a leader last year when they were 15-1 going into the playoffs, but now they believe they have one of the best quarterbacks in the league. "I think teams know we're going to try to run the ball on them, and they want to make Ben beat them,'' left guard Alan Faneca said. "These past few weeks, Ben's been doing just that.'' The Bus has been impressed with Ben, too. "From last year to this year, he's a different quarterback,'' running back Jerome Bettis said. "He has an understanding of what he needs to do to manage the football team. The plays he makes with his feet and throwing the ball is amazing.'' Get the rest of the story. That's Pittsburgh Steelers news.
